Isle of Wight

Soak up the sunny weather with an island holiday. Discover the Isle of Wight’s history and heritage as we explore some of the islands top tourist attractions and some hidden gems too. We included excursions to a great fortress, Britain’s hottest garden and the islands most iconic landmark, The Needles.

Day 1

Join the coach for a relaxing journey south where we board the ferry for the 1 hour crossing to the Isle of Wight. On arrival onto the island, we continue to the hotel arriving early evening.

Day 2

Today, enjoy a free day in the traditional seaside town of Shanklin. Nestled in the bay between Sandown and Ventnor, Shanklin regularly tops the charts for the number of sunshine hours. Walk the Isle of Wight Coastal Path (Shanklin to Sandown), soak your toes in the unspoiled shores or visit Shanklin Old Village. The Old Village is a small part of Shanklin Town, it contains some of the oldest dwellings on the Island of which the majority are thatched, it is famous for its small gift shops and tea rooms.

Day 3

We journey to the centre of the island for a morning visit to Carisbrooke Castle. This fortress was created to defend against Viking raids. Later, it imprisoned Charles I after his Civil War defeat, then became the summer home of Princess Beatrice, Queen Victoria’s daughter. The castle’s current residents are the much-loved Carisbrooke donkeys. Explore the 16th century guardhouse, experience the beauty of St Nicholas’s chapel and watch the donkeys demonstrating drawing up water in the well-house. In the afternoon we visit Godshill. This tranquil village has charming thatched cottages and a popular Model Village. There’s plenty of tea rooms serving delicious cream teas and ice cream treats.

Day 4

This morning we visit Britain’s hottest garden. Nestled in a warmer climate on the south coast Ventnor Botanic Gardens has an impressive collection of exotic plants and succulents. The gardens are spread across 22 acres and contain vibrant plants from around the world. In the afternoon we visit Alum Bay. It is well known for its coloured sand cliffs, stunning views across the Solent and the iconic Needles landmark.
