Set in the sparkling waters just 14 miles from France, Jersey has always had a dramatic appeal. The atmosphere is decidedly continental but without any problems of language or currency, Jersey nevertheless has a familiar feel.   Spectacular cliffs, wide, sandy beaches and leafy country lanes - the scenery seems to change around each bend in the road.

    Liberation Day
6 May 2019

Each 9 May is celebrated as Liberation Day on Jersey. It was on that day in 1945 the Nazi occupiers of the island surrendered to British forces. Every year, the flag-raising events of 9 May 1945 are re-enacted. A procession of government officials moves from Royal Square to Liberation Square, where the special events take place. Gathered crowds sing Beautiful Jersey while military vehicles from the 1940’s and people dressed in military dress of the time parade and then stop for an official review.

    Battle of Flowers
3 August 2019

The origins of the Battle lie in 1902, during the coronation of Kind Edward Vll and Queen Alexandra. Islanders decided to hold a parade in their honour, with horse-drawn floats covered in flowers taking to the waterfront streets of Jersey. There was a tradition of picking flowers from the floats and throwing them to the audience; this quickly developed into flowers being thrown back, and the 'Battle of the Flowers' was born. The event is held on 8 August 2019.
