Bruges Christmas Market
Bruges Christmas Market

This year, why not combine a little Christmas shopping with the beauty of a truly extraordinary Medieval city?

Bruges is one of the loveliest cities in Europe, with its winding streets and canals, beautiful buildings and ancient history – it’s a wonderful place to simply wander, with many amazing sights to see, not least of which is the Belfry, a towering stone construction which reaches 83 metres and commands excellent views of the city (that is, if you feel like braving the steep climb up 366 steps which get narrower and steeper the higher you go).

During the Christmas period, this fantastic city holds a market, which perfectly encapsulates the magic of the holiday. Stalls selling delicious food, the requisite Belgian chocolate, mulled wine and other drinks tempt passers-by, while others showcase traditional Belgian hand-crafts and seasonal ornaments, gifts and curios. And when you’ve got as many bags as you can possibly carry, why not head to the Ice Rink, which is set up in the Simon Sterinplein, and glide about on the ice before indulging in a little hot chocolate....

    Day 1

After a mid-afternoon departure from your local pick-up point, you’ll head to Hull, where you’ll board the ferry for the overnight crossing to Zeebrugge (Bruges on the Sea). You have the option of dining on the ferry, before retiring to your comfortable cabin for the night.

    Day 2

After arriving in Zeebrugge, you’ll head into Bruges, where you’ll have the whole day to explore the city and the Christmas Market. Why not take a small break from shopping and visit one of the city’s many museums, or climb the Belfrey, or perhaps visit the cathedral and see the Bruges Madonna and Child – the only statue by Michaelangelo to leave Italy during his lifetime. When you get hungry, you’ll find fantastic restaurants serving a mix of French and traditonal Flemish cuisine – try the Mussels, they’re delicious!

In the late afternoon, you’ll head back to Zeebrugge and board the ferry for the return crossing to Hull.

    Day 3

You’ll arrive in Hull by mid-morning, and after an optional breakfast, you’ll disembark and rejoin the coach which will return you to your drop-off point.
