Edinburgh Tattoo
Edinburgh Tattoo

Join us for a short break to Scotland, and spend a few days amid the treasures of the North. You’ll have the chance to visit an ancient town, a beautiful 18th century house and of course, see the famous Edinburgh Tattoo, where military bands and artistic display teams will thrill you with their perfectly timed performances.

    Day 1

Morning departure from your local pick-up point to Irvine. This coastal town is an ancient Scottish settlement and once the site of Scotland’s Military capital, and headquarters of the Lord High Constable of Scotland.

    Day 2

After a leisurely morning, you’ll head to Edinburgh. Here you’ll have the afternoon to explore this fabulous city, before joining the crowds at the Castle Esplanade for 9pm, where you’ll have seats for one of the greatest shows on earth. Marvel at the intricate and excellently performed feats of military showmanship, ending with a performance by a lone piper from the battlements of Edinburgh castle. (Dinner not included.)

    Day 3

After breakfast you’ll head to Dumfries House, a gorgeous 18th century house and estate 2 miles west of Cumnock. The house is noted as one of the few from this era which retains most of its original furniture, including some specially commissioned pieces by Thomas Chippendale. The house has a wonderful, if bitter-sweet history and you’ll be able to spend hours discovering all its delights, with a delicious lunch provided.

    Day 4

After a leisurely start to the day, you’ll re-join the coach for the journey home, with comfort stops along the way.

    Disabled Access
Edinburgh Castle

Its ancient, historic setting, on the Esplanade (the Tattoo venue) of Edinburgh Castle is matchless. Located high above the skyline of the oldest and most popular part of the City, perched on an extinct volcano some 135 metres above sea level. The unique setting of the Tattoo may present access difficulties for some, particularly the elderly, people with disabilities and individuals with limited mobility. Those with known heart conditions (Angina, Previous MI, LVF, etc.), respiratory conditions (COPD, Asthma, etc.) and vertigo sufferers may also be affected when trying to access the Esplanade.

Castlehill, the old-cobbled approach to the Esplanade, is a steep inclined walk of some 100 metres which, consequently, may prove difficult for some. In addition, there is on average a further 100 metres climb up the gentler slope of the Esplanade, followed by a dozen or so steps to be negotiated to reach the front rows of all the spectator stands in the arena. The rest of the seating in the amphitheatre is accessed by more steps which are quite steeply tiered.
