Jersey - Battle of the Flowers
|
| |
The Battle began as a flower parade, but along the route the flowers were torn off and thrown to the spectators. They threw them back, and the Battle was born.
So successful was the first battle that it became a annual event, and was held on Victoria Avenue every year - with the exception of the First World War - until 1928. Then, until war again intervened in August 1939, the battle was held in the enclosed Springfield Stadium just outside St Helier.
Nowadays the Battle of Flowers remains a popular event, attracting thousands of people each year. It takes place on the 2nd Thursday of August, with a moonlight parade the following evening.
The Battle celebrated its centenary in 2002, with many floats taking the 100 year birthday as the theme for their design.

Jersey - Liberation Week
|
| |
Set in the sparkling waters just 14 miles from France, Jersey has always had a dramatic appeal. The atmosphere is decidedly continental but without any problems of language or currency, Jersey nevertheless has a familiar feel. The variety of places to visit and sights to enjoy is quite remarkable given the compact size of the island. Spectacular cliffs, wide, sandy beaches and leafy country lanes - the scenery seems to change around each bend in the road. Jersey is also an island with a proud tradition and heritage. The main town of St Helier is a bustling centre, full of interesting shops and plenty of places to visit. There is always lots happening during the day and at night.

Jersey - Tennerfest Food Festival
|
| |
For the 14th consecutive year, starting from the 1st October, the Channel Islands can look forward to 6 weeks of great meals at fixed prices. Across Guernsey and Jersey in 2010, the Tennerfest had over 170 restaurants taking part, meaning diners were once again guaranteed to find outstanding menus and meals created from the wealth of good food available in the islands.
The Tennerfest is a food promotion that encourages local restaurants to create a special, all-inclusive menu that provides the diner with more at a fixed amount. Restaurateurs on both islands are offering menus starting at £10 with £12.50, £15.00 and now £17.50 options. This enables the restaurants to offer a wide and exciting selection of food during this promotion.

Krakow and the Tatra Mountains
|
| |
Krakow is the ancient capital of Poland and for centuries coronations and burials of the country’s monarchs took place here. It was the only major city in Poland to come through the Second World War largely undamaged and on the hill one can still visit Wawel Castle and the cathedral. The city’s rich history and cultural significance was recognised in 1978 when UNESCO placed Krakow on the list of World Heritage Sites.
